Wildlife pond
This season we are looking at ways to boost biodiversity on the farm and help do more to support our local ecosystem. One of the best ways to do this is to add a wildlife pond. You’d be surprised at the number of creatures that quickly take up residence in a new environment. But you don’t need a big space to create your own, a washing up bowl size pond in a back garden also makes a big difference. Why not try it and make your own? There is lots of helpful guidance over at The Wildlife Trust.
We are excavating the lowest spot in the field and using the spoil to level up the ground for the new Polytunnel.
The dig isn’t finished, but then it hasn’t stopped raining for 3 days and suddenly we have a pond! As it takes shape we will plant it up with some indigenous British marginals and water plants. The wildlife will move in automatically.
