Flower Care Guide

1. Prepare the stems.

Using very sharp scissors, or secateurs if you have them, snip a centimetre off the ends of all the stems at a 45 degree angle.

This will help the flowers to better absorb water.

Read our in depth guide to stem snipping.

2. Prepare the vase.

Make sure the vase or container you will be using has been thoroughly cleaned, dirt and bacteria in the water will affect the life of the flowers and make the water murky. Fill the vase with plenty of clean water.

TIP: Add a pinch of sugar, a drop of bleach and a squeeze of lemon juice into the water. The sugar will act as a food source for the flowers, the bleach will help to kill off bacteria, and the lemon juice will lower the pH.

Read our in depth guide to preparing a vase, vase water, and plant food.

3. Arrange your flowers.

Place the cut stems into the vase with the clean water, now is the time to make any adjustments to your arrangement!

Make sure the water line is covering all the stems.

TIP: Ensure no leaves or petals are submerged in the water. Soft parts of the plants like these will degrade in the water and accelerate the ageing of your flowers.

4. Ongoing care.

Keep your flowers away from fresh fruit and artificial heat sources, and keep out of direct sunlight. These can all have a detrimental impact on the life of your flowers.

Check the water daily and top up as necessary.

Repeating steps 1-3 every couple of days will extend the life of your flowers.
