Seasonal British Flowers

In this article you will find an overview of the wide variety of British cut flowers we grow on our Cheshire flower farm, all of which are available for public and trade customers. We take pride in growing flowers entirely sustainably and in line with the seasons; we are 100% chemical-free and everything is grown on our farm in Cheshire, so they have zero air miles. Not only are they environmentally friendly, they are environmentally positive!

  • Achillia plants flowering with sprays of small white flowers on the end of long green stems

    Achillia ptarmica 'The Pearl'

    Varieties grown: 1

    Availability: July & August

    Stem length: 30cm

    Achillia is a perennial plant with sprays of informal, intensely white double flower heads, carried on stiff stems that bear dark grey/green foliage.

    Available as a fresh flower between July and August, and as foliage during Autumn and Spring.

  • White sprays of tiny flowers at the top of thin green stems

    Ammi (Bishops Flower)

    Varieties grown: 1

    Availability: May - August

    Stem length: 30-40cm

    More commonly known as bishops flower or laceflower, Ammi majus is an annual plant that produces a brilliant spread of dainty white flowers at the top of thin green stems.

    Available fresh during summer and dried through the rest of the year.

  • Tall Snapdragon stems with fans of pink and yellow flowers at the top

    Antirrhinum (Snapdragon)

    Varieties grown: 4

    Availability: July - September

    Stem length: 30-60cm

    Antirrhinum, commonly known as Snapdragon, feature a fan of colourful flowers along the top of a tall, structural stem.

    We grow yellow, orange, red and pink varieties and they are available as fresh flowers throughout Summer.

    Availability: June - September

    Stem length: 30cm

    Our calendula bear very large, striking, bright orange double flower heads atop long, straight stems which grow up to 40cm in length.

    Available as fresh flowers throughout Summer.

  • Chrysanthemum

    Varieties grown: 26

    Availability: August - December

    Stem length: 30-50cm

    We grow both spay and bloom chrysanthemums, in most colours. They are long lasting in the vase, remaining fresh for up to 14 days.

    Available as fresh flowers from August to December depending on variety, and dried at other times.

    Availability: June - August

    Stem length: 30-50cm

    We love our cornflowers which look like diamonds within arrangements. We grow white, pink, blue and black varieties of cornflowers here at Moorfield Farm.

    Available as fresh flowers throughout high Summer, and as dried through the rest of the year.

  • Bright pink double cosmos amidst beautiful green foliage

    Cosmos

    Availability: July - September

    Stem length: 30-40cm

    We grow three varieties of cosmos, two varieties featuring double flowers in pink and white, and a variety of white single headed cosmos. All varieties come on long stems around 30-40cm in length.

    Available as fresh flowers between July and September.

    Stem length: 30-50cm

    Long, narrow silvery grey stems and leaves with a bright yellow pom pom flower head at the top.

    We have these available fresh between June and October, and as dried throughout the year.

    Dahlia

    Varieties grown: 38

    Availability: August - November

    Stem length: 30-40cm

    We love our dahlias with their show stopping shapes and colours, and their generosity; that’s why we grow nearly 40 varieties! They send up bloom after bloom from July until the first frost. Dahlias last only 5-7 days in the vase but can be spectacular in their effect.

    Available as fresh flowers between late July and November, as dried stems throughout the year, and preserved flower heads all year round.

    Gypsophila (Baby's Breath)

    Availability: July - September

    Stem length: 20-30cm

    The most beloved airy filler flower sets off more showy flowers perfectly, it’s a great backdrop to arrangements.

    Available fresh between July and September and dried throughout the year.

    Helichrysum (Strawflower)

    Varieties grown: 3

    Availability: July - September

    Stem length: 30-40cm

    Wonderfully structural flowers in both delicate and deep colours. They are well known to keep their appearance when dried, which is primarily what we grow them for. We grow white, pink and purple varieties.

    Available fresh July to September and dried throughout the year.

    Limonium (Statice)

    Varieties grown: 6

    Availability: July - September

    Stem length: 30-50cm

    A great structural flower in 6 different base colours. They last forever in the vase, looking as good when dry as fresh. We grow whites, yellows, purples and pinks and they are as colourful dry as they are fresh.

    Available fresh between July and September and dried throughout the year.

    Nigella (Love in a mist)

    Varieties grown: 2

    Availability: June - September

    Stem length: 40-60cm

    Beautiful, feathery foliage ‘mists’ around delicate blue flowers around 4cm across. The seed heads look spectacular too and we grow these varieties as much for their flowers as the seed heads.

    Available as fresh flowers throughout summer and as seed heads all year round.

  • Pink sage flowers atop extremely long straight flower stems

    Salvia viridis (Clary Sage)

    Varieties grown: 5

    Availability: July - September

    Stem length: 40-60cm

    We grow 5 colours of Say So Salvia. Tall, straight stems topped with beautifully sculptured coloured bracts. We grow whites, pinks and purples.

    Available as fresh flowers between July and September.

  • Beautiful white pincushion flower in focus with many more behind out of focus

    Scabiosa (Pincushions)

    Varieties grown: 1

    Availability: June - September

    Stem length: 30-60cm

    More commonly known as pincushions, these produce brilliant white double flowers approximately two inches across on very tall, thin stems.

    Available fresh between June and September and dried throughout the rest of the year.

  • Large copper orange sunflower head

    Sunflower

    Varieties grown: 5

    Availability: July - September

    Stem length: 20-60cm

    We grow a variety of sunflowers, with stem lengths ranging from very short which we use for small posies, right up to very large headed, long stemmed varieties such as the Copper Queen seen here in the picture.

    Available as fresh flowers between July and September, in a range of colours from pale yellows to deep oranges.

  • Sea of delicate sweet pea flowers in white, purple and pink on their stems

    Sweet Pea

    Varieties grown: 5

    Availability: June to September

    Stem length: 20cm

    Their short vase life of around five days is made up for in droves by their unmistakably sweet, beautiful fragrance that fills any room. We grow five varieties in white, cream, pink and purple.

    Available as fresh flowers between June and August, and naturally preserved through the rest of the year.

    Availability: July - October

    Stem length: 30-40cm

    Bright, show stopping flower heads between 5 and 10cm across, adorned on very long, straight, stiff stems.

    We grow a range of bright colours, red, yellow, pink, whites and more.

    Available fresh between July and October, as well as dried and naturally preserved throughout the rest of the year.
