Tom and Bella fixing the new rabbit fence.

Tom and Bella fixing the new rabbit fence.

We are encouraged by the response in our trial summer. We have prepped 8 more beds to triple the growing area for next year.

We managed to get about 10 tonnes of rotted horse manure so we can get all the no-dig beds ready.

We will plant phacelia, a fast growing “green manure” to put some friendly roots into the beds. We will top the crop off before it sets seed and cover then to rest for the winter.

I did set aside some of the new bed area to plant up a biennial - Sweet William for an early crop next season. Sweet Rocket, Honesty and Foxgloves ready to go in next.

We love rabbits as much as anyone but the cuddly creatures cant keep from nibbling tasty new shoots so the plot has to be off limits to them.
