Handmade Wreaths

This year’s collection of wreaths are individually handmade to order using solely ingredients grown and prepared by us on Moorfield Farm.

A year in the making.

It all begins at the start of the year, as we are sowing all our seeds and growing our infant plants on!

Once our plants are flowering beautifully we carefully select a wide variety of flower and seed heads that preserve and dry well, including hydrangea, helichrysum, craspedia, dahlia, heather, poppy, various grasses, and many, many more.

We carefully batch dry our beautifully fresh flowers over the course of the year, preserving them ready for our autumn and winter wreaths. Depending on the variety of flower, this can take anything from two to eight weeks, after which time they need to be delicately stored to keep them in the best possible condition until they are ready to take on a new life as one of our wreaths!

Made to order.

Each one of our wreaths is individually made to order, meaning each one is completely special and unique, this means our customers receive the freshest possible product.

The first step is to select and arrange all the ingredients that will go into the final product. This may be eucalyptus or ivy, freshly cut and prepared on the day of your order, and a selection of our carefully preserved flowers and seed heads. Each of these must be diligently selected for quality and suitability to the piece we are making at the time.

We also need our jute string, wreath rings, British moss and all our tools and implements required to fix and tie the wreath together.

Care and attention.

We take great care and pride in each of our wreaths, so once we have selected the contents, we move on to carefully arranging mini bouquets to feature around the piece.

Layering all the elements together into individual mini bouquets takes time and practice, but taking care over this stage results in a stunningly beautiful final product. Individual bouquets are tied together using jute string to form a range of distinct posies. These will form the forward facing side of the wreath.

Before arranging the front, we need to work on building the moss base on which the bouquets are attached. The moss provides a solid base and some moisture to the contents, which helps maintain the wreaths shape and provides ongoing nourishment and hydration to the contents.

The final arrangement.

The final step is to arrange and tie in the mini bouquets onto the moss ring base.

The whole process uses one continuous piece of jute string which is wound around the base tightly over and over again. This ties the bouquets in and brings stability and solidity to the final wreath. Depending on the wreath, there may be up to twelve individual mini bouquets to tie in.

Ensuring full coverage and an aesthetic blend of colours and bouquets is essential to ensuring the final wreath is beautifully balanced and gorgeous to look at. This is why its important to invest all the time right at the start of the process to grow and dry the right materials, carefully select the best stems and meticulously prepare and arrange all the elements for the final arrangement.
